In order to fulfill its mission, EIM must successfully build out a number of competencies. This tutorial describes what these competencies consist of, and provides guidance on how to build them out. Some categories of competencies are relatively new, such as governance and information knowledge management. Others are more traditional, such as data design, but need to be recast to support the EIM mission, and away from legacy project orientations. Special emphasis is placed on EIM competencies concerned with physical data management, since ultimately the only truth about data is what is in the physical databases. The issues involved in building a multi-disciplinary team that must interface with all areas of IT and the business are described with recommended solutions. Care is taken to ensure that the lessons of the past 30 years or so of data administration are taken into account so EIM will build on success without repeating any errors of the past. \nAttendees will learn:\n

What EIM is, and the major categories of its competencies
\n
The special features of the most important competencies, and how to build these competencies successfully
\n
How to get EIM to successfully work with IT and the business
\n
Major processes and infrastructure needed to make EIM work
